Accommodation in Cartagena is varied and plentiful
There are literally hundreds of room types and budgetary options available
There are 3 main accommodation areas within the city;
- Cielo Mar- near the airport
- The Old Town (El Centro / San Diego)- the historic walled city
- Getsemani- the historic (now hipster) area just outside the walled old city
- Bocagrande- the Miami like new area of high rise apartments and 5 star hotels
In searching for a conference venue hotel we have personally reviewed multiple hotels and can recommend the following options in the following areas
- Cielo Mar
The Las Americas Hotel is a gigantic kid friendly hotel near the airport with the best
beach in the city. The newly built complex on the city side of the hotel is spectacular.
- Old Town
The Sofitel Santa Clara is a beautiful low rise hotel built within a 500 year old
nunnery. It has several amazing bars and restaurants.
- Bocagrande
There are many 5 star hotels in this area including the Hyatt, the Estelar and the
Intercontinental. We have checked them all out and they are all brand new and
beautiful as expected for these chain hotels.
The Hilton is the oldest of the Bocagrande hotels and its not quite as flash as the
newer versions but it is quite secluded and quiet.
There are of course other hotels we havent personally reviewed that have great reputations across the city.
We have tended to stay in BnBs during our planning trips and there are options across all areas of the city at all budgetary levels, from homestays to luxury villas. We would recommend the Old Town and Getsemani for these options although there are flash apartments available through online sites in the Bocagrande area.
